Beginning in Santiago

Not sure what happened or if my first post showed up now, but it did in Dallas... oh well. Currently I am sitting in the hostel Calisto Surfista in midtown Santiago. The city is wonderful thus far.

This morning I woke up as the sun was just about to rise above a what looked like the sea but was clouds. A few moments later the landscape become clear from the air and the sun rose to reveal the Andean mountains below us. We landed around 9:30 and soon began the journey through the airport to get all the necessary required stamps and checks. My flight companion, Allison, and I then took the Turisvan from the airport to our hostel. It is an amazing experience to be in such a beautiful country and not know the language or customs.

Jonathan is the owner of the Hostel and gave us the low down on its amenities. It is really nice and comfortable. Then Allison and I took a walk to the Parque Bustamante and enjoyed some coffee and pastel con leche. The people here are amazingly friendly and it will not be difficult to get around with the mapping skills I have learned from mi padre.

Also these photos added were when I was in the DFW airport Admirals club for my 14 hour layover. I was treated very well by the two ladies Roxana and Carolina. Also I met Ricardo Pavez who is a detective in Temucago south of Santiago and Alejandra who works for the Defense Ministry here in Santiago.

  1. Wow, what a cool background pic! Glad you made it all that way! Appears that the "lounge helped you relax during that long layover. I bet it's popular! Santiago is very impressive. An MG friend told me about when he on business down there in the early 70's. Right before the CW. It was scary sounding. Glad they've made so much progress. Take care, and don't be afraid to try the language. You'll do fine. . .does Allison know any Spanish? Love Dad
